Don’t Relent! Ash Wednesday, And the Image to the Beast

Bible prophecy warns us to expect powerful religious forces to hijack the American government and endorse and enforce a Roman Catholic institution as a condition of buying and selling.i


This website has spoken (here, here, here and here) of the repeated papal and false Protestant efforts to seize control of civil power in the United States and reunite church and state. As Delilah the harlot sought to discover and eliminate the secret of Samson’s power, so the Papal harlot has unceasingly sought to find and eliminate the source of America’s power, and bring it to its knees.


As Delilah sensed the moment of her triumph had come, the Papacy surely senses that the fall of the mighty is near. On behalf of apostate Protestantism, the harlot’s daughters, the New Apostolic Reformation believes in the subordination of the state to the church, and counts a number of prominent politicians and advisors in Washington D.C. as its followers.ii Catholic Integralism also maintains the church must control the state, and counts the Vice President as its follower,iii as well as multiple Cabinet members from the Opus Dei-influenced Heritage Foundation.iv Catholicism and apostate Protestantism, therefore, are in a position to exert substantial control over government, in effect uniting church and state in fulfilment of Bible prophecy.


In another harbinger of the proximity of the crisis, on Wednesday, March 5, the White House held a Catholic mass on its grounds and issued a statement in celebration of the commencement of the Catholic festival of Lent on Ash Wednesday. The statement of the President and First Lady reads as follows:


 This Ash Wednesday, we join in prayer with the tens of millions of American Catholics and other Christians beginning the holy season of Lent—a time of spiritual anticipation of the passion, death, and Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.


During the Lenten season, Christians spend 40 days and 40 nights praying, fasting, and giving alms to deepen our faith and strengthen our belief in the Gospel. Today, followers of Christ wear crosses of ash on their foreheads—a sacred reminder of our mortality and our enduring need for Christ’s infinite mercy and redeeming love.


As we solemnly contemplate Jesus Christ’s suffering and death on the cross this Lent, let us prepare our souls for the coming glory of the Easter miracle.


We offer you our best wishes for a prayerful and enriching Lenten season. May Almighty God bless you, and may He continue to bless the United States of America.v


The White House should not be hosting Catholic mass on government grounds. The White House is a government building, and it ought to be a neutral religious space, not a place to endorse the practices of any one religion, or denomination. So why are the President, the head of the Executive Branch, and the First Lady, issuing a statement on a government website with respect to Lent at all?


Donald Trump and his wife Melania can celebrate Lent if they want, but they ought not to misuse the enormous power of the US government to encourage or endorse religious practices to Americans. The Bible says, “Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.”vi

The point is that government leaders are welcome to observe Lent if they wish in their own personal lives, but they are out of their sphere of authority to use their influence to normalize Lent or any other religious observance.

The White House statement then claims that Lent is a Christian practice, but is Lent biblical? Does the Bible talk about moping around with the sign of the cross drawn with ashes on your forehead?


The Bible answer is a resounding ‘No’. Lent is not a biblical precept or festival any more than Sunday is the biblical Sabbath. Both are Roman Catholic traditions devoid of Scriptural origin.


With respect to Sunday observance, Rome boasts of its change of the Sabbath, even issuing an unanswerable challenge to Protestants who bow in homage to her authority in honoring Sunday. We invite you to read “Rome’s Challenge” if you have never done so.vii


Similarly, Lent is a Roman Catholic tradition. It is a merits-based exercise from start to finish devoid of the righteousness of Christ. The Reformer John Calvin called it “superstitious” and “wrongheaded zeal.”viii The Reformer Ulrich Zwingli declared the observance of Lent incongruous with the Christian gospel in a sermon on April 16, 1522.ix We would add that Lent is precisely the kind of public virtue signalling the Bible condemnsx and right-wing conservatives dislike about their left-wing opponents. Think of it as the Catholic version of painting a rainbow on your face.


Key Points of the White House Statement


The endorsement and promotion of Lent by the White House is a violation of the spirit of the separation of church and state. It is a formal commendation by the civil power of the US government of a Roman Catholic religious festival.


Consider the following.


  1. The Executive Branch of the US government has no business declaring its favor, participation in, or endorsement of a certain religion’s festivals


The White House in its statement on the official government website refers to "the holy season of Lent". As discussed, there is nothing in the Holy Bible about Lent being a holy season. God never said anything about Lent at all, it is wholly an ordination of the Man of Sin. But apart from this, the Executive Branch of government should not be declaring festivals or feast days to be holy or unholy. That is not the proper role of any earthly government.


When God delivered the Ten Commandments to Moses, they were written on two tables, thus evidencing the difference between humanity’s obligations to God, and humanity’s obligations to their fellow humanity. Christ declared in immortal words the principle of the separation of church and state when He stated, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.”xi


God is holy, and it is for the Lord to declare what is holy and what is not. Caesar is not holy, and has nothing to do with saying what is or is not holy. Any attempt to declare that something is holy when God has not said that it is holy is an intrusion on the exclusive territory of the Deity.


2. The White House states that, During the Lenten season, “Christians spend 40 days and 40 nights praying”, and "Today, followers of Christ wear crosses of ash on their foreheads."


It is not for the American government to declare what the followers of Christ do or do not do. This ill-conceived statement underscores the pitfalls of government wading into the religious realm to declare what is orthodox.

First, and strictly factually speaking, it is the followers of the Papacy, and Pope Gregory specifically, who put ashes on their foreheads,xii it is not done pursuant to any decree of Christ. According to the Catholic Church, “the use of ashes is a survival from an ancient rite according to which converted sinners submitted themselves to canonical penance.”xiii Canonical penance is a form of works-based righteousness by which Catholics believe they accrue or accumulate personal merit to gain standing with God. Penance in Catholicism was declared by the Council of Trentxiv to be “at all times necessary for the remission of grievous sin.”xv The Roman Catholic Church teaches that the person who sins “must repent and as far as possible make reparation to Divine justice.”xvi


But the Bible teaches that Christ has made reparation for humanity. He died “once for all”,xvii and that the “Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”xviii No additional reparations (works) can be added to the completed work of Christ in taking the sins of the world upon Himself. The Apostle Paul states, “Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”xix


3. The White House claims the penance of Lent “deepens our faith and strengthens our belief in the Gospel”


Is this true? No, it is not. Works based righteousness, i.e. wearing ashes on one’s forehead to make reparations for sin, undermine and repudiate faith in the Gospel. They do not strengthen faith in the Gospel at all! Such acts of penance declare that a person places merit on their own acts of contrition, their own works, to commend themselves to God, and disbelieve the sufficiency of Christ’s payment for the sins of the world.xx


4. Jesus Christ never wore ashes on His forehead, nor did He command His followers to do any such thing, nor is there any example of any of His apostles doing this


On what basis does the White House presume to declare that the followers of Christ do this?

Do the mournful people following the Papacy’s Lent realize that Jesus specifically taught His followers not to fast in this way? The Lord declared, “When ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.”xxi

Christ said the reward of the people with ashes prominently displayed on their foreheads is the notice of men, not the commendation of God.


5. The White House states that we should "... prepare our souls for the coming glory of the Easter miracle" by fasting for Lent.


Should a neutral state on a government website be making this statement? Is it the place of the Executive Branch to offer spiritual advice to Americans? Why is the U.S. government promoting the Papal teaching that penance and fasting is required to prepare for Easter?


Promoting papal teachings on Lent is a definite step toward promoting Papal teaching on the sacredness of Sunday. Since the White House has already declared that the Papal practice of Lent is “holy”, is it not reasonably foreseeable that the White House will one day declare that the Papal teaching of Sunday is also holy, and is the day that Christians rest from their labors?


CONCLUSION

The Bible teaches that religious forces will cause America to make an image to the Papal power, and enforce observance of the mark of Papal authority – the change of the fourth commandment to solemnize dia solis, the Day of the Sun – Sunday.


Revelation 13 states that the Lamb-like Beast will cause everyone “to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads.”xxii Given the certainty of the prophetic warnings in Revelation 13, the White House’s endorsement of Papal ashes on the foreheads of Americans is uncomfortable foreshadowing.

The Sun Is Setting on the British Empire

Humanity is accelerating toward the fulfillment of Bible prophecy and the events warned of in Revelation 13-18. Ecumenism is bringing Protestantism back into harmony with the Papacy. The wall of separation between church and state is under attack from religeonists who covet state power to compel their dogmas on the human population. We have passed another signpost. The Church of England split from the Roman Catholic Church in 1534 during the Reformation over a dispute about papal authority and the annulment of Henry VIII’s marriage. As a result of this schism, Anglicans have long had an established creed similar to the Westminster Confession of the Reformed Church. Like the Westminster Confession, the “39 Articles of Anglicanism” formally rejects the papal claim to universal supremacy for the Bishop of Rome. The 39 Articles of Anglicanism include the following: “As the Church of Jerusalem, Alexandria, and Antioch, have erred, so also the Church of Rome hath erred, not only in their living and manner of Ceremonies, but also in matters of Faith”; “The Romeish Doctrine concerning Purgatory, Pardons, Worshiping and Adoration, as well of Images as of Relics, and also Invocation of Saints, is a fond thing, vainly invented, and grounded upon no warranty of Scripture, but rather repugnant to the Word of God”, “It is a thing plainly repugnant to the Word of God, and the custom of the Primitive Church to have public Prayer in the Church, or to minister the Sacraments, in a tongue not understanded of the people”, “Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, are not commanded by God's Law, either to vow the estate of single life, or to abstain from marriage: therefore it is lawful for them, as for all other Christian men, to marry at their own discretion, as they shall judge the same to serve better to godliness”, and “ The Bishop of Rome hath no jurisdiction in this Realm of England.” The Popes assert they “hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty”. England rejected these boastful claims and the Pope’s presumptuous authority to dominate the minds and hearts of humanity. It is not a coincidence that while many other European countries were suffering under the oppression of the Inquisition, England was advancing toward empire. So vast was is influence at one time it was famously even claimed that “the sun never sets on the British empire”. But a great change has come. For some decades England, which never sufficiently distanced herself from Rome doctrineally, has been increasingly friendly toward the Papacy. Today, the globalism of the Roman pontiff is the globalism of King Charles III. The climate change agendas of Pope Francis and Pope Leo XIV are also shared by King Charles III, the latter of who’s father publicly advocated for population reduction and compared humanity to a “plague”. England is also adopting digital IDs and carrying out mass surveillance and censorship on its own citizens, a practice near to the hearts of the prelates of Rome, to be sure. And now, King Charles III, who holds the title of not only king but Supreme Governor of the Anglican Church, is headed to Rome to hold a public prayer ceremony with Pope Leo XIV. The leader of the Anglican Church has not engaged in public prayer with the Bishop of Rome for approximately 500 years. According to the Royal Palace, “This will be the first state visit, since the Reformation, where the Pope and the Monarch will pray together in an ecumenical service in the Sistine Chapel, and the first time the monarch will have attended a service in St Paul’s Outside the Walls, a church with an historic connection to the English Crown.” According to MSN News, Charles III will also accept a new title. “Charles is also being recogenised for the British monarchy’s historic association with the Papal Basilica of St Paul’s Outside the Walls in Rome, the seat of a Benedictine Abbey, and will be made “Royal Confrater” of the abbey.” Rome never changes. The Papacy has not retreated one letter from its false doctrines. It still claims authority over this earth. It still teaches the false doctrine of purgatory and forbids priests to marry, as well as many more false doctrines which Protestants, including Anglicans, object to. So why this ecumenical development today? The change is with the Anglican Church, which is drifting back toward the once-estranged mother as prophecy foretells. The light of sola scriptura that was brought to England by the Bible is being rejected. It seeks the company of the pope, the pretender to the throne of Christ. Like Israel of old, Anglicanism will say, “we have no king but Caesar.” Of all the Protestant denominations, Anglicanism is the closest to Catholicism. The pageantry and formal rites still have many similarities. England mirrors the union of church and state of Roman Catholicism by unifying church and state in the person of the monarch of England. It has no pope, but it has a king who claims to be the head of the church. Now that king will go to Rome. All roads lead there, it is said, and Protestantism has set itself to prove it. THE CURSE OF CHURCH AND STATE, PART 4: THE FIRST DUTY OF CITIZENS

“ It is proper to take alarm at the first experiment on our liberties. We hold this prudent jealousy to be the first duty of Citizens...” – James Madison, Memorial and Remonstrance Let us soberly consider Madison’s warning. It is “ proper ” to be alarmed at the “ first ” experiment (in modern terms, “threat”) to our liberties . The first threat, mind you. And, not only is it “proper to take alarm”, but “ this prudent jealousy ” is the “ first duty of citizens .” What a warning! Our world is full of tyrants. There are tyrants on the Left, and yes, do not deceive yourself, there are also plenty of tyrants on the Right. Let us soberly evaluate ourselves as citizens then. Have we, do we, exercise “that prudent jealousy” to safeguard individual liberties, not only ours but the individual liberties of our society? No. If we are honest, the answer is “no.” Collectively and individually, western society has woefully failed to take alarm when individual liberties are threatened. If “eternal vigilance is the price of liberty”, as Jefferson said, we should expect to be enslaved. And we ought not to be surprised that this is precisely what is happening. We are entertained. We are preoccupied. We are self-absorbed. And we have failed to be vigilant for liberty. What liberties are we to guard? We do not have to guess. We are to jealously safeguard as our first duty those liberties enshrined in the Constitution. First and foremost, we are to safeguard the separation of church and state, freedom of religion, free speech, freedom of the press, and the right to assemble. Before considering the existential threat to liberty that Christian Nationalism poses, which is the primary subject of this article, we first must make dishonorable mention of certain other threats to liberty which so many of us have ignored to our shame and peril. Compulsion to use biologically discordant gender pronouns is a threat to liberty. Silence while the world plays make-believe about men becoming women and having babies is a threat to liberty. Government removal of parental rights is a threat to liberty. Suing bakeries to punish them for refusing to make wedding cakes for gay weddings is a threat to liberty. And yes, killing millions of babies in utero is absolutely a threat to liberty. Not only is it uncivil and immoral, it is national suicide to wilfully destroy the next generation of human beings. Killing millions of babies is correlated with western willingness to accept mass migration. There is a need to replace workers the western world does not have. How is that going for you, France? Germany? UK? America? But if any of the above makes you feel partisanly righteous, however, let us disabuse you of your sanctimony. Both Left and Right governments locked their populaces down during Covid. Both forced and bullied their citizens into social distancing and “two weeks to flatten” the spine of the population. What would Madison have said about an America where the government threatens the civil liberties of the entire country, and American’s response was to roll up their sleeves, and say, “fine, Fauci says I need it, and I really want a free hamburger”? We are to take alarm at the First Experiment upon our liberties. And when does that start? Is 37 trillion dollars of national debt a threat to liberty? What about currency debasement? Mass warrantless public surveillance? Digital money tied directly to the Federal Reserve so that authorities can shut your entire life off with the push of a button? No, Christian Nationalism is not the first threat to liberty. Not even close. But it is a threat to liberty and more than this, it is biblically prophetic, as we have discussed. And we could respond, and do respond, “because it is unconstitutional”. And it is. But the answer is bigger than that. Doug Wilson, and Jared Longshore. Timon Cline and Lennox Kalifungwa. Stephen Wolfe. These, and many other modern and intolerant “Christian” thought leaders all believe in the establishment of a Christian Republic in America as a cure for society’s ills. What do they propose? Liberty? Far from it. The Woke Left violated free speech through state-sponsored gender confusion and forced pronouns. The Christian Nationalist response is blasphemy laws enforced by the state. Doug Wilson and friends are constantly telling everyone who will listen how great the Puritans in Massachusetts were, and that they founded America, which is false by the way. But they do not tell you that in Massachusetts violations of blasphemy laws were historically punished by piercing the offender’s tongue with a hot poker, or death. Today in Massachusetts, a blasphemy law still exists (although it is not currently enforced), and states as follows: Section 36: Blasphemy Section 36. Whoever wilfully blasphemes the holy name of God by denying, cursing or contumeliously reproaching God, his creation, government or final judging of the world, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching or exposing to contempt and ridicule, the holy word of God contained in the holy scriptures shall be punished by imprisonment in jail for not more than one year or by a fine of not more than three hundred dollars, and may also be bound to good behavior. Are we so blind that we do not see that censorship from the Right is as much a threat to liberty as censorship from the Left? Christian Nationalists claim Swiss Reformer John Calvin is the father of America. This is a dangerous and outrageous falsehood, and will be the subject of an upcoming article. It must never be forgotten that John Calvin had men murdered for the supposed crime of heresy, the substance of which was nothing more than disagreeing with John Calvin. The Woke Left hijacked government to enforce their religion of gender ideology. And Christian Nationalists want to establish Protestantism as an official state religion, contrary to the First Amendment to the Constitution. Doug Wilson and company intend to legislate compliance with the first table of the Ten Commandments. That includes blasphemy laws, of course, but also Sunday ‘Sabbath’ blue laws, and punishments for supposed violations. Violations of Sunday laws historically included whipping. Jailing. Chain gangs. Stocks. And death. And in case you were wondering, all of those things when imposed for simply disagreeing with religious bigots are a threat to liberty. Christian Nationalists want to demolish the separation of church and state in America, and even admit their intention to impose a religious test for public office, contrary to the Article VI of the Constitution: The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution ; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States. Doug Wilson and company are openly stating their intention to threaten the liberty of every single American. Madison would have opposed them publicly, were he alive. But he has left the trust to us. Madison as a youth stood outside a local prison and listened to an incarcerated minister preach through the bars of his cell window. The minister had been imprisoned for the so-called “crime” of “preaching the Gospel incorrectly”. Because he had seen oppression from religious bigots firsthand, James Madison had a lifelong animus to the union of church and state. And so should you.
